This contemporary original folk art painting is inspired by my love of naïve art, lore and the rich tradition of folk-art storytelling.
In folkloric traditions, the Black Cat represents different things in myriad cultures around the world.
This painting symbolises the Scottish tradition of the feline as sentinel. This familiar watches over you and yours, and guards against negative energy and dark forces.
Using charcoal from neath the cauldron fire pit, burnt umber gouache, oil pastel and pencil, this dark design marries expressive mark-making with dramatic and distinctive details.
