This contemporary original folk art painting is inspired by my love of naïve art, lore and the rich tradition of folk-art storytelling.
In Gaelic tradition, the uterus or womb is referred to as the 'wame.'
In the old stories, as a source of life, wisdom and memory it was said "to tend the womb is to tend a well."
Her physiology, menses and fertility, is one of potent, powerful magick and renewal.
The wame is pathway to the cosmic portal.
Using charcoal from neath the cauldron fire pit, burnt umber gouache, oil pastel and pencil, this dark design marries expressive mark-making with dramatic and distinctive details.
