Ash
bashes against the glass,
trembling,
wings ignite,
scatter,
moon dust,
her aching heart;
she must
follow it into the dark
to rage against the light.

The exceptional warmth of summer brought a myriad of butterflies and moths to our garden this year. However, as exquisite as they are, admit I have a morbid fear of moths.
One night I watched as a large Hawkmoth fluttered at the window, and given it's size, was extremely relieved it was behind glass. But I was also compelled to look, for despite their commonality to Scotland, I had never seen one before.
Ash was made from reused packaging, a chocolate box to be exact (a gift given to us on Hogmanay as a 'first foot' for our new house.
The round shape reminded me of a victorian love token, a gift given from an admirer to sway affections. I found the antique love card in a charity shop; it was a match made in heaven. Often wrapped with ribbon but mine is adorned with Beech leaves from my Mother Tree. In a bid not to waste anything, I like to dry preserve the leaves after they are done eco-printing.
The alchemy of my cauldron, Earth, Fire, Air and Water.
Ash; made in the forest, from my heart to yours.
