We live in a meadow situated in the middle of commercial conifer forest. Our land the remnants of an old arable farm. This stretches as the crow flies, ten miles round. The conifers are now approx thirty years old and ready to harvest. Spring saw the loggers roll in.
It is sad to see the forest change so dramatically. The upside is the deciduous trees are flourishing now they donβt have to compete for sunlight and nutrients. And next Spring the forestry will replant with a broad variety, not just conifers.
The logging also revealed secrets hidden deep in the woods. This badger sett was one. Itβs at the top of the hill and before the trees were felled, is clear to see that the sett sat within a circle of trees.
I was upset to see that there home had been exposed, and worried about the distress brought on by the logging.
At bedtime, I fell asleep thinking of them and hoped they were ok.
That night, Brock visited me in my dream. He told me a tale of the badger and the moon. He pointed out the circle I had seen and told me they were still safe. For he is a keeper of the lamplight.
The next morning I chose an eco-print and set to work. Desperate to capture the dream before it became a fleeting figment.
